Located just 1h30 from the capital of Alpes-Maritimes, the Auron resort is open to skiers and snowboarders from late November until May 1st.
As one of the gateways to the Mercantour National Park, at 1,600 meters altitude, Auron/St-Etienne-de-Tinée is particularly appreciated by mountain and hiking enthusiasts. Auron has preserved its authenticity, and the village is delightful to stroll around after skiing, offering bars, restaurants, a skating rink, events, and evening activities.
A family-friendly and authentic resort, Auron quickly immerses visitors in its magical world amidst pines and firs. The resort offers over 135 km of slopes and 19 lifts, divided into 4 sectors: Las Donnas, Sauma Longue, Demandols, and Lieuson.
Sport 2000 tip: if you’re visiting for a day or a weekend, we recommend staying near the village of Saint-Étienne-de-Tinée. Its Pinatelle gondola gives direct access to Auron’s slopes without driving up to the main station. The parking lot has 250 free spaces—take advantage of it.

Isola 2000 (2h00 by car)
One of the Niçois’ favorite resorts is Isola 2000, located just 90 km from Nice. Want to enjoy both mountains and the sea? On a clear day, you can see the sea from the Sistron peak (2,610 meters).
Beyond the view, Isola 2000 is primarily a human-scale resort with a fairly large ski area divided into 3 sectors:
- Pelevos sector: beginner slopes (mostly green and blue) and a snowpark for freestylers;
- Saint-Sauveur sector: for advanced skiers who enjoy curves and bumps, with blue, red, and black runs. When snow allows, skiing through the woods is possible from January to March;
- Lombarde sector: alpine skiing and snowshoeing, benefiting from the best sunshine in the resort thanks to its southern orientation.
A Nordic area is also available, allowing activities such as cross-country skiing, ski touring, snowshoeing, sledding, and dog sledding.
Don’t be surprised to encounter some military remains on the trails, as the resort once served as a border post with Italy. You can also venture to the Italian side for a snowshoe hike overlooking the resort.

Valberg (1h45 by car)
Perched at 1,700 meters with views over the Mercantour National Park, welcome to Valberg. This authentic high-mountain village combines modernity and tradition.
Just 1h45 from Nice, Valberg is one of the largest resorts in the Southern Alps: 90 km of alpine slopes, 23 lifts, a Big Air Bag, a snowpark, a family course, and a wide range of activities. True to its slogan, "the best of the Southern Alps," Valberg caters to both children and adults.
Open in winter and summer, Valberg offers year-round activities: bars, restaurants, shops, and local services. The village center is pedestrian-only and free shuttles operate throughout the resort for easy movement.
